Polling Underway for First-Ever Silchar Municipal Corporation Election

Polling is underway in the first-ever Silchar Municipal Corporation election following the town’s upgrade from a municipal board. Voting began at 7 am across 40 wards, with around 2.7 lakh eligible voters, 131 candidates and 303 polling stations. BJP candidates have been elected unopposed in the remaining two of the corporation’s 42 wards.

The district administration has made security and other necessary arrangements to ensure peaceful polling. The election marks a significant milestone in Silchar’s civic administration, with voters electing representatives to the newly constituted municipal corporation for the first time.
