High-Level Meeting on Sustainable Mithun Production in Assam

A high-level meeting chaired by Agriculture Minister Atul Bora focused on sustainable Mithun production in Assam, particularly in Dima Hasao district. Bora emphasized the significance of Mithun in the region and its historical presence. Monjit Naiding, Executive Member of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary (Hills), praised efforts by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to revitalize the Mithun population and highlighted its potential for eco-tourism. Dr. K.K. Baruah from ICAR discussed collaborations for Mithun development in Northeast India, while Dr. Girish Patil outlined a roadmap for the sector’s growth in Assam. Manish Thakur, Principal Secretary, emphasized priorities like vaccination and organic farming. Bora concluded the meeting by calling for a detailed action plan and establishing a core committee to support Mithun development.
