Himanta Biswa Sarma Reaffirms Commitment to Protect Bodo Language

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to preserving and promoting the Bodo language amid controversy over the removal of a Bodo inscription from the new Assam Legislative Assembly building. The Assembly Secretariat clarified that the inscription was removed temporarily for repair work and denied any decision to remove it permanently.

The issue triggered protests by Bodo and tribal organisations, with the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) alleging discrimination against the language and warning that continued disrespect could revive the demand for a separate Bodoland state. Protesters also demonstrated outside the BTC Secretariat, accusing Assembly authorities of undermining Bodo identity.
