HM Conspiracy Case: NIA Court Awards Life Sentence to Key Accused in Assam

A special court of the National Investigation Agency in Guwahati convicted Md. Kamruj Zaman, a key accused in a Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terror conspiracy case, and awarded life imprisonment. The court held him guilty under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for conspiring to set up a module of the Pakistan-based terror outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen in Assam during 2017–18.
The sentences will run concurrently, along with fines. The case related to recruitment and radicalisation efforts in Assam. Other accused were earlier convicted after pleading guilty, while one died during trial.
