IIT Guwahati Develops Cost-Effective Method to Clean Industrial Wastewater
IIT Guwahati researchers have developed a sustainable method to remove toxic pollutants from industrial wastewater using biochar made from fruit waste. Led by Dr. Gopal Das, the team used pineapple crowns and mosambi fibers to create biochar that efficiently absorbs harmful nitroaromatic compounds.
Their study found that Ananas Comosus Biochar (ACBC) removed 99% of 4-nitrophenol, while Citrus Limetta Biochar (MFBC) achieved 97% removal within five minutes. This eco-friendly solution provides a low-cost alternative to existing wastewater treatment methods.
