Illegal Buffalo Fights Halted in Assam After PETA Complaint

Raha Police in Nagaon registered an FIR after PETA India filed a complaint with video evidence of illegal buffalo fights held on January 17 and 21. Police also stopped another fight following a tip-off.

Despite the Gauhati High Court’s December 2024 ban on such fights under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, incidents were reported during the Magh Bihu festival in Morigaon, Nagaon, and Sivasagar. PETA praised police action and urged stricter measures to prevent future cruelty.
