IMD Issues Red Alert for Assam Districts Amid Forecast of Extremely Heavy Rainfall

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several districts in Assam, predicting extremely heavy rainfall until July 1. The affected districts include Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Karbi Anglong, Tinsukia, and Dima Hasao for June 30, while Nalbari and Karbi Anglong have a red alert for July 1. Orange and yellow alerts are in place for other districts till July 4. The IMD attributes the weather to a cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and moisture from the Bay of Bengal, causing widespread and heavy rainfall in the region.
