IMD Warns of Heavy Rains in Northeast Despite Monsoon Retreat
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed that the monsoon’s withdrawal from the Northeast is on track, but certain areas may still experience rains till mid-October. The IMD issued warnings for heavy rainfall in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura over the next three days.
Thunderstorms and lightning are “highly probable” in isolated regions, while parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Manipur are also likely to receive heavy rain. A cyclonic circulation over the region is causing these conditions, though the system over eastern Bangladesh and southeastern Assam has weakened. Meteorological officials note that the rainfall is typical before the monsoon’s retreat.
