India Raises Concerns Over China’s Brahmaputra Mega Dam

India expressed concerns about China’s plan to build the world’s largest dam on the Brahmaputra River in Tibet. The government urged Beijing to ensure downstream states like Arunachal Pradesh and Assam are not harmed.

The dam, estimated to cost $137 billion, will be built near the India-China border in an ecologically sensitive Himalayan region. India’s External Affairs Ministry emphasized the need for transparency, consultation, and protection of lower riparian rights.

China claims the project will not harm downstream areas and promises continued communication and disaster management cooperation with lower riparian countries.
