Indian Tea Industry Sees Record Exports Amid Rising Challenges

On International Tea Day, the Indian Tea Association (ITA) highlighted record tea exports in 2025, with India exporting 280.40 million kg of tea worth Rs 8,488 crore. However, the association expressed concern over rising production costs, climate change, weak price growth and global market uncertainties affecting the industry.

ITA said erratic rainfall in Assam and West Bengal, increasing operational expenses and growing tea imports continue to threaten the sustainability of tea estates. The association called for stronger policy support, climate-resilient farming and diversification of export markets to protect the sector’s future.
