ISIS Allegiance Case Unfolds at IIT Guwahati

In a recent development, the Special Task Force (STF) Assam detained Sohail Ur Rehman, an associate of the arrested IIT Guwahati student Tauseef Ali Farooqui, following Farooqui’s alleged pledge of allegiance to ISIS on social media. The STF team, led by Kamrup Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Kumar Pathak, interrogated Sohail at Lohit Hostel in IIT Guwahati to probe his potential links to the terrorist outfit. Sohail, hailing from Jammu, is also a student at the prestigious institution.

Farooqui’s arrest, made after he posted an open letter in support of ISIS, has put the spotlight on the issue of radicalization among intellectual students. With two top ISIS leaders already apprehended in Dhubri, the incident has raised concerns in Assam. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma disclosed that another IIT Guwahati student is under security agencies’ scrutiny, highlighting the urgency of the situation. The police have initiated a thorough investigation at IIT Guwahati to uncover any further ISIS links among the student populace.
