JeM’s Emergence in Assam Raises Alarm

The detection of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Assam marks a troubling expansion for the Pakistan-based terror group, previously focused on Jammu and Kashmir. Supported by Pakistan’s ISI, JeM is now attempting to establish a presence in the Northeast.

Security agencies are particularly concerned because JeM has shifted tactics, using social media to radicalize youth remotely. This is exemplified by the arrest of Sheikh Sultan Salahuddin Ayubi, who was recruited online. While JeM currently aims to build its base rather than engage in immediate violence, its growing influence in Assam poses significant challenges for local security forces.
