Jogighopa-Guwahati Rail Line Survey Done, Project Halted Due to Low Traffic: Vaishnaw

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the survey for a 136-km Jogighopa-Guwahati rail line via Barpeta, Sarthebari is complete but stalled due to low traffic projections. From 2021–25, 21 rail surveys (2,499 km) were sanctioned in the Northeast. As of April 2024, 18 projects (1,368 km, ₹74,972 crore) are underway, with 313 km completed. Project progress depends on land acquisition, clearances, and other local factors.
