Jorhat Residents Protest Against Exorbitant Smart Meter Electricity Charges

The Jorhat District Committee of Raijor Dal and Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), along with local residents, held a sit-in protest outside the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) office. The demonstration was against allegedly high electricity bills due to the new smart meter system. A memorandum was sent to the Chief Executive Engineer of Jorhat, demanding immediate action, with a warning of escalated protests if the issue persists. APDCL responded, stating that unit charges remain the same, but new billing slabs have affected final amounts. Protests have also occurred in other districts across Assam.
