EEFI Regional Meeting in Guwahati Discusses Concerns Over Pre-Paid Smart Meters

The Eastern regional meeting of the Electricity Employees Federation of India (EEFI), organized by the Assam State Electricity Supply Workers’ Union (ASESWU), was held in Guwahati to discuss the government’s plan to install pre-paid smart meters. Over 100 delegates from various states and CPSUs attended. EEFI’s national secretary, Sudip Dutta, criticized the plan, warning of its negative impact on consumers and the potential for privatization of state electricity distribution. Representatives from multiple states shared similar concerns, emphasizing the need to protect the interests of electricity employees and consumers.
