Joyous Occasion in Orang National Park as Elephant Munmi Gives Birth to Calf
A moment of celebration unfolded in Orang National Park as thirteen-year-old elephant Munmi gave birth to a male calf on February 22. The park’s range officer has confirmed the well-being of both the newborn calf and Munmi. Munmi and her twin sister Chitra, born to mother Alaka, have been residents of Orang National Park since birth. The joyful event is further heightened by the revelation that Chitra is also expecting, currently nine months pregnant, and their mother Alaka is pregnant as well, creating a rare occurrence of three generations of impending motherhood within this elephant family. With Munmi and Chitra experiencing pregnancy for the first time, and Alaka having given birth multiple times, the park is witnessing a unique and joyous moment. Orang National Park currently houses 43 departmental elephants, including 10 calves.
