KAAC Suspends Mining in Kaziranga’s Eco-Sensitive Zone
The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) held a crucial meeting to address mining activities in the eco-sensitive zone near Kaziranga National Park. The Council ordered the immediate suspension of ten stone quarries and four more near Borjuri Waterfall due to environmental concerns.
A comprehensive study on the impact of quarrying on rivers and streams will be conducted within six months. The KAAC also plans to cancel settlements of quarries lacking environmental clearance. Additionally, operations at Deihori river sand ‘mahal’ will be suspended. Authorities will report findings to the State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority.
