KAAC to Evict Encroachers from Grazing Lands in 15 Days

The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) will begin eviction of all encroachers from PGR and VGR lands in Karbi Anglong within 15 days, CEM Tuliram Ronghang announced. Eviction notices will be issued from Tuesday, except to 339 families who have obtained a stay from the Gauhati High Court. Businesses on such lands will be shut and licences cancelled. KAAC will file an affidavit on January 5, while phased evictions in Bokoliya will begin after Magh Bihu. The decision follows recent unrest in West Karbi Anglong, after which Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assured steps to seek early court clearance on stalled eviction drives.
