Kaziranga Encroachment Clearance Still Pending Despite Court Orders

Ten years after the Gauhati High Court ordered the removal of encroachments from Kaziranga National Park (KNP) additions, progress remains slow. While some areas, including the Sixth addition, have been cleared and handed over, the Second addition still faces pending claim settlements. The forest department has deposited ₹104 crore to speed up the process. Conservationists have criticized the prolonged delay, calling it a setback for wildlife protection. The Sixth addition, covering 47,391.33 hectares across four districts, has been officially notified following a re-survey.
