Kaziranga Records Highest Migratory Bird Count in Wetlands

Kaziranga National Park recorded 112,062 water birds across 124 species during the 6th Water Bird Counting Programme. Conducted across 189 water bodies, the survey found 62 migratory species and seven globally threatened ones, including Baer’s pochard and Pallas’s fish eagle. The bar-headed goose had the highest count at 20,845. Five new species, including the knob-billed duck and white-tailed eagle, were observed for the first time. The findings highlight Kaziranga’s rich avian biodiversity and ecological importance.
