Kaziranga Tiger Reserve Launches Conservation Efforts for Black Softshell Turtle

Kaziranga Tiger Reserve (KTR) in Assam, in collaboration with TSA Foundation India, has initiated a conservation program for the critically endangered black softshell turtle. Native to the Brahmaputra basin, this species faces severe threats.

The project, focusing on the Biswanath Wildlife Division, involves protecting and artificially incubating eggs collected from the Nagshankar temple. Hundreds of eggs are incubated annually, with hatchlings receiving care post-incubation to ensure survival. This initiative marks a significant step in freshwater turtle conservation.
