Liquor Ban Imposed Ahead of Lok Sabha Polls in Kamrup Metropolitan District

In preparation for the third phase of Lok Sabha polls, the Kamrup Metropolitan District Commissioner has announced a dry day from 5 p.m. on May 5 until 5 p.m. on May 7. This directive prohibits the consumption, supply, and sale of alcohol throughout the district, with all liquor wholesale and retail outlets, as well as bars, ordered to shut down. Any breach of these regulations will incur appropriate penalties under Section 135(c) of the People’s Representatives Act, 1951, and the Excise Act. Additionally, the district administration had previously declared a dry day for the vote counting on June 4, 2024. The third phase of Lok Sabha elections is scheduled to commence at 7 a.m. on May 7 and conclude at 5 p.m.
