Locals Attack Police, Free Criminal in Assam’s South Salmara Mankachar District

In a disturbing incident on Friday night, a group of locals launched a brazen attack on three police personnel escorting a high-profile criminal to the Bondihana police outpost in South Salmara Mankachar district, Assam.

The apprehended individual, Ala Uddin, son of Abdul Latif, was arrested from Chirakhowa Part-V village in connection with a 2014 case involving rioting, trespassing, endangering life, assault, and outraging the modesty of a woman. The case, registered at the Fakirganj police station, was listed as Fakirganj PS Case No: 277/14 147/447/336/323/354/149 IPC and was pending at CJM Court, Dhubri.

As the police were nearing the Bondihana police outpost, a mob of miscreants, believed to be supporters of Alauddin, launched an assault on the law enforcement officers. In a daring move, they managed to snatch the accused away from police custody and inflicted serious injuries on the police personnel.

Authorities have taken swift action by lodging a case against the attackers and initiating raids to apprehend them and recover Alauddin, according to police sources. The injured policemen are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
