Political Turmoil in Assam Congress as Prominent Leaders Eye BJP

Speculations are rife about a potential upheaval within the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) following Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ departure from Assam. There are indications that former Assam minister Bismita Gogoi and Dr. Angkita Dutta, daughter of late APCC President Anjan Dutta, might resign from Congress to join the ruling BJP on January 28. While national BJP reportedly approves their joining, a condition has been set—both leaders won’t seek tickets in the upcoming 26th Lok Sabha elections. Bismita Gogoi, who has been inactive in Congress, was a minister in the late Tarun Gogoi’s regime and has long been rumored to have ties with the BJP. Angkita’s decision to join the BJP was fueled by perceived neglect during Rahul Gandhi’s yatra, prompting her to stage a protest in Amguri, ultimately leading to her decision to switch parties.
