Lower jaw of a river dolphin found severed and floating in Dhubri

Locals and environmentalists were devastated and incensed when a precious and uncommon dolphin was discovered dead in a deplorable condition in Dhubri. The Gangetic River Dolphin is the official animal of Guwahati city and the national aquatic animal of India.

The dolphin was said to be an adult that had its lower jaw amputated by a fishing net snare when it was seen in the Majerchar area of Dhubri.
