L&T Awarded Contract for New Brahmaputra Road-Rail Bridge in Assam

Guwahati: The Railways has awarded the contract for a new road-cum-rail bridge over the Brahmaputra River to L&T Construction Ltd. The project, estimated at around ₹1,400 crore, is targeted for completion by 2029.

Officials said preliminary construction work has already begun, including piling tests and ground-level activities. The 2-km-long bridge is expected to improve road connectivity, boost passenger and freight movement, and help strengthen Assam’s railway network through rail line doubling.
