Manipur Police Take Custody of Prime Accused in Assam CM Signature Forgery Scam
The Manipur Police arrived in Guwahati to take custody of Rakesh Singh, the prime accused in a forgery scam involving the signature of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Singh, originally from Assam, was arrested for forging the CM’s signature on a fake cheque, leading to his 14-day police custody. He was presented before the Special Court in Guwahati and remanded in custody, which ended today, prompting the Manipur police to take charge.
Investigations revealed that Singh embezzled over Rs 9 lakh from the Manipur CM relief fund using a fake cheque from the Manipur government’s sports department.
