Margherita Villagers Protest Against Coal India’s Debris Dumping Practices

Residents of Margherita’s Ledo area are protesting against Coal India Limited (CIL) for allegedly using their lands as dumping grounds for coal mining debris. Villagers from Jharna Basti and nearby areas fear environmental destruction and loss of livelihoods, as tea gardens and greenery have turned into wastelands. The villagers accuse CIL of disregarding their concerns and forcing them out with minimal notice. Despite a recent protest and a subsequent apology from CIL, the community remains distrustful and awaits a resolution to their plight.
