Marksheet Scam Uncovered at Gauhati University; Chief Minister Orders Investigation
A significant marksheet scam at Gauhati University has come to light, involving the illicit manipulation of marks through financial transactions. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that individuals managing the computerized marksheet system inflated marks for students in exchange for money. The scam was exposed with the detection of forged marks for Azizul Haque, a student at Ganeshlal Chaudhary College in Barpeta Road. In response, Assam Police and CID have launched a joint investigation, identifying six cases and making one arrest. Initial criticism of Barpeta police for attempting to suppress the incident was addressed following media coverage and intervention by the Chief Minister. Sarma assured continued efforts to uncover similar frauds in other universities, emphasizing a thorough inquiry and engagement with the Gauhati University chancellor.
