Meghalaya Government Defends USTM Against Assam’s Flood Allegations
The Meghalaya government has responded to Assam’s repeated claims that the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) is responsible for severe water-logging in Guwahati. Lahkmen Rymbui, Chief Advisor to Meghalaya, countered Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s accusations, urging him to be “pragmatic and practical.” Rymbui highlighted pollution on Assam’s side of Byrnihat and warned of potential legal action if Assam approaches the National Green Tribunal (NGT) over USTM. The Assam CM has criticized USTM repeatedly, blaming it for recent flooding in Guwahati. USTM maintains it has a recognized “green campus” and denies the accusations.
