Solar Fence Installed to Protect Elephants on World Elephant Day

On World Elephant Day, a 16 km solar fence was inaugurated around Raimona National Park by local residents, WWF-India, and forest officials. This cost-effective fence aims to reduce human-elephant conflict by protecting over 2,498 households in seven villages. Raimona, part of the Ripu-Chirang Elephant Reserve, is home to key species including elephants and the Golden Langur. The fence, also installed in 2023 along an 11 km stretch, helps prevent elephant-human encounters while being monitored by both the community and Forest Department.
