Meghalaya Halts ₹3.42-Crore Bridge Construction Along Assam Border

Palasbari: The Meghalaya administration has halted construction of a ₹3.42-crore concrete bridge over the Ukati River at Umsur along the Assam-Meghalaya border, citing concerns over the disputed boundary. The World Bank-assisted project, undertaken by the Assam Government, has been suspended pending discussions between the two states.
Following the development, Palasbari Co-District Commissioner Bhaskarjyoti Kalita visited the site with police, revenue and PWD officials on Friday. Despite discussions with Meghalaya authorities, no resolution was reached. Kalita maintained that the construction site falls within Assam’s jurisdiction, while Meghalaya officials insisted that work remain suspended until both state governments resolve the matter.
