Minister Proposes Merger of Agriculture and Irrigation Departments Amid Drought Crisis

With five Assam districts declared drought-hit, Minister Ranjeet Dass has proposed merging the agriculture and irrigation departments for better coordination. Speaking in Jorhat, he stressed unified leadership to address operational delays. Assam faces a 34% rainfall deficit, affecting 27 districts. The issue has been raised with the Centre, and Union support has been assured.
