Mizo Communities in Assam Renew Demand to Merge with Mizoram

Mizo leaders in Assam’s Singla and Langkaih valleys have reiterated their demand to merge with Mizoram, citing concerns over security, culture, and development neglect. The Thangram Indigenous People’s Movement (TIPM) met Mizoram CM Lalduhoma, urging integration for better socio-political security. The demand, ongoing since 2020, claims over 30,000 Zo ethnic people inhabit the region, historically linked to Mizoram before 1987. TIPM had earlier petitioned PM Modi and Home Minister Shah on the issue. Leaders allege Assam’s neglect in infrastructure, education, and welfare has pushed them towards seeking inclusion in Mizoram.
