Mizoram Records Biometric Data of Over 43% Myanmar Refugees

Mizoram authorities have collected biometric details of around 13,620 Myanmar refugees—about 43.5% of the estimated 31,300 taking shelter in the state since the 2021 military coup. The enrolment, conducted via the Foreigners Identification Portal, began in Serchhip district and later expanded to others. Despite internet and technical challenges, the process continues steadily. Around 3,000 Bangladeshi migrants from the Chittagong Hill Tracts have also taken refuge in Mizoram, with their biometric registration to follow next. Refugees are housed in camps, relatives’ homes, and rented houses across 11 districts.
