Silchar: The nomination process for the upcoming Silchar Municipal Corporation election saw both the BJP and Congress confronting internal disagreements. The BJP submitted nominations with 38 official candidates, even as 11 party rebels entered the race as independents, while six of the 17 workers who had earlier planned to rebel did not file papers.

The Congress fielded 40 candidates but faced protests over ticket distribution, with disgruntled workers reportedly vandalising part of the party’s district office a day earlier. BJP leaders, meanwhile, projected unity during the nomination rally, with Silchar MLA Dr Rajdeep Roy, former MLA Dipayan Chakraborty and BJP leader Sushmita Dev participating in the proceedings.
