Morigaon Police Crackdown: 16 Arrested in Cyber-Enabled Financial Crime Operation

In a significant operation targeting cyber-enabled financial crimes, the Morigaon police have arrested approximately 16 individuals in connection with a case involving the fraudulent siphoning of over Rs 10 crore through Rupay credit cards. Acting on a complaint from Axis Bank, Morigaon Branch, a team led by the Superintendent of Police conducted searches at 21 locations in the Moirabari and Laharighat areas. The police revealed that the fraudsters utilized fake PAN cards, with cardholders from outside the state of Assam. With support from the locals, the police have previously busted fake Aadhaar enrolment centers, leading to the arrest of several operators involved in the nexus. The operation resulted in the recovery of various documents, including PAN cards, bank passbooks, ATM cards, Aadhaar cards, mobile phones, SIM cards, and voter cards. Over 150 individuals have been arrested in Morigaon district for cyber-enabled financial crimes, according to the police, who have registered two cases related to these recent offenses.
