Newborn Found Dead Near Pond in South Salmara-Mankachar District

A distressing incident unfolded in Gokulpur village, Nak-Kati, under Sukhsar police station in South Salmara-Mankachar district, as the lifeless body of a newborn was discovered on the pond bank. Villagers alerted Sukhsar police upon spotting the infant. District Magistrate Indrajit Das, accompanied by Sukhsar police officers, responded to the scene, recovering the newborn’s body. The body was subsequently transferred to Dhubri for a postmortem examination. Das confirmed the discovery, estimating the infant to be between two to three days old, abandoned near the pond.
