NFR Achieves Major Safety and Modernisation Milestones in 2025–26

The Northeast Frontier Railway Mechanical Department reported significant progress in 2025–26, focusing on safety, modernisation, and capacity expansion.

Maintenance of Vande Bharat sleeper trains began at Kamakhya, while servicing of eight Amrit Bharat trains was also initiated. Additionally, 22 extra coaches were added across 21 trains to meet growing passenger demand.

On safety, over 3,400 fire suppression systems were installed, and fire detection systems were upgraded to automatic mode in key coaches.

Infrastructure upgrades included the first overhaul of a tower car at New Bongaigaon Workshop and rehabilitation of LHB coaches.

Passenger comfort was also improved through refurbishment of Rajdhani coaches and renovation of Avadh Assam Express rakes, enhancing hygiene and travel experience.
