NHAI Announces 5% Toll Tax Hike Post-2024 Lok Sabha Elections

Following the conclusion of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has implemented an average toll tax increase of 5% across the country, effective June 3. This annual revision, typically aligned with inflation, had been postponed due to the general elections. A senior NHAI official confirmed the hike, stating that the increase, delayed due to the election process, would now take effect. However, the decision has sparked discontent among commuters, particularly those using the Guwahati-Nagaon four-lane highway and residents near the Raha toll plaza, who voiced their frustration over the sudden midnight announcement.
