NIA Charges ULFA-I Chief Paresh Baruah and Associates for Conspiracy to Attack Army Camps

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against Paresh Baruah, the chief of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), and five others. They are accused of conspiring to target army camps in Assam as part of an anti-India agenda. The charges stem from a 2023 case involving a grenade attack on an army camp in Kakopathar, Tinsukia district, on November 22, 2023. The attack, executed by two motorcycle-borne youth, was part of a larger plot to harm army personnel through a series of grenade attacks. The chargesheet, filed in the NIA special court in Guwahati, names Paresh Baruah, Arunudoy Dohutia, Saurav Asom, Abhijit Gogoi (alias Aisheng Asom), Parag Borah, and Bijoy Moran as key conspirators. Parag Borah and Bijoy Moran were arrested in early December 2023, while the other accused remain at large.
