Nine Pygmy Hogs Released in Manas National Park

Nine captive-bred pygmy hogs were released into Manas National Park by the Pygmy Hog Conservation Programme (PHCP). Principal Chief Conservator of Forests RP Singh praised the initiative, which aims to restore the critically endangered species. This marks the fifth release since 2020, bringing the total number in Manas to 27. The PHCP has reintroduced 179 pygmy hogs into Assam since 1996 and plans to maintain a small captive population for future breeding and releases.
