Northeast India’s Natural Gas Potential Can Reduce Imports and Boost Economy: IGX CEO

Rajesh K. Mediratta, Managing Director and CEO of the Indian Gas Exchange (IGX), stated that the exploration of natural gas in Northeast India could significantly cut imports, boost the local economy, and create trade opportunities, especially with Bangladesh. Speaking at a seminar in Guwahati, he estimated that once the Northeast Gas Grid is operational by 2026, the region could produce 6 MMSCMD of natural gas. This would reduce India’s import dependency, contribute to energy security, and create substantial revenue while supporting industries and job creation in the region.
