OIL Discovers Crude Oil on Brahmaputra’s North Bank in Assam for First Time
For the first time in over 130 years, crude oil has been discovered on the north bank of the Brahmaputra in Assam. Oil India Limited (OIL) struck heavy crude at the Kobochapori-1 well in the OALP Block AA-ONHP-2017/10. The well, drilled to 4,334 meters, confirmed hydrocarbon presence in a geologically complex area. This marks a major milestone in expanding oil exploration beyond Upper Assam. Further tests are underway to assess the reserve potential.
