One Arrested in Chengkuri Bypass Gang Rape and Extortion Case

Police have arrested one person in connection with an alleged gang rape and extortion incident along the Chengkuri bypass in Cachar. An FIR was registered at Silchar Police Station, and the case has been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

According to police, the incident occurred on the night of February 19 when the victims were inside a parked car. A group of men allegedly arrived in an SUV, held the male victim at knifepoint, sexually assaulted the woman, and extorted money.

Police said investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest the remaining accused. The incident has triggered public outrage, with demands for swift justice.
