Opposition Seeks Govt Action Over Tezpur University Crisis

After walking out of the Assam Assembly, Congress and CPI(M) leaders again demanded government intervention in the ongoing crisis at Tezpur University, where classes have been stalled for over 70 days.
Opposition members alleged corruption under the Vice-Chancellor, citing inflated purchase rates and recruitment irregularities. They also raised concerns over missing key administrative posts and declining academic rankings.
Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia called the situation an “administrative collapse,” while CPI(M) MLA Manoranjan Talukdar said the government cannot remain silent.
The Speaker earlier rejected a detailed discussion on the issue, stating it fell under the Centre’s jurisdiction, prompting the Opposition walkout.
