Orang National Park to Expand Amid Rising Tiger Population: Patowary

Environment Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary visited Orang National Park and announced plans to expand its area due to a growing tiger population. From 79 sq km, the park now spans about 280 sq km, but forest staff numbers remain unchanged.
Tourism infrastructure is being improved, and casual guards’ salaries may soon be revised following a Cabinet decision. Orang houses 28 tigers, 125 rhinos, and thousands of other animals, but still lacks sufficient tourist lodging and food facilities.
