Over 30,000 Teacher Posts Vacant in Assam Schools: Minister

Dispur: Nearly 20% of Assam’s 1.54 lakh sanctioned teacher posts are lying vacant, with 30,032 positions yet to be filled, School Education Minister Ranoj Pegu informed the Assembly.

Of the vacancies, 18,801 are in primary schools and 11,231 in secondary and higher secondary schools. The Minister said the government is preparing vacancy lists and will recruit teachers as part of its commitment to provide government jobs. He also acknowledged the issue of single-teacher schools and said recruitment, teacher rationalisation, and school mergers are being implemented to improve staffing.
