Over Two Lakh Protesters Demand ST Status for Tea Tribes and Adivasis

Over two lakh people joined a massive rally in Dhekiajuli demanding Scheduled Tribe status for Assam’s tea tribe and Adivasi communities. Organised by several community groups, the protest also sought land pattas and higher daily wages. Leaders accused the government of ignoring long-pending promises and warned of political repercussions in 2026 if demands remain unmet. The peaceful rally ended with a vow to continue the agitation.
