Pipeline Burst in Guwahati’s Kharghuli Causes Major Disruption
A pipeline burst in Guwahati’s Kharghuli area on Thursday morning flooded streets and damaged over five homes, seven vehicles, and businesses. The incident, caused by pressure buildup during preparations for a surge protection tank at the Kharghuli Water Treatment Plant, occurred around 10:15 a.m.
Water surged for 40 minutes before authorities controlled the situation. Residents faced significant property losses, prompting demands for compensation. Officials attributed the rupture to a power interruption and pledged to investigate.
The Guwahati Jal Board had earlier warned of possible water leakages due to pipeline testing but assured immediate action to address issues. Concerns over the city’s water infrastructure remain high.
